GETM is applied in simulations of several areas in europe. Additional
to the list of peer reviewed publications, some of the GETM users
present their setups in this section. The list on this page is sorted
in inverse chronical order - i.e. the newest setup at the top. Lists of
setups related to certain institutes are organised in the sub-menu.

Experimental nonhydrostatic extension of GETM |
|
Within the framework of a diploma thesis at IOW, funded by CEFAS, the feasibility of an alternative approach for the inclusion of nonhydrostatic dynamics into GETM has been tested. The optional extension avoids the inversion of an elliptic problem for the pressure and requires only minimal modifications to the existing efficient model kernel. |

Adaptive vertical coordinates in GETM |
The developers code will soon be updated to allow for adaptive vertical coordinates. The implementation of the vertical coordinate transformation in GETM allows for an almost arbitrary vertical coordinate distribution. With adaptive vertical coordinates, it is possible to reduce pressure gradient errors and numerical mixing significantly.

The GETM model (http://www.getm.eu) is used at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission as the workhorse for generating harmonized multi-annual simulations of all the European Regional Seas. Different turbulence and biological models are incorporated via the GOTM (General Ocean Turbulence Model, http://www.gotm.net) model.

Non-hydrostatic pressure gradients |
|
As a feasibility study, GETM has been extended for reproducing the
effects of non-hydrostatic pressure gradients.

North Sea - Baltic Sea 60 layers 1nm setup |
|
RDANH is running GETM in an operational setup creating 54 hour forecasts four times daily. The setup is 60 layer spherical with roughly 1nm horizontal resolution. The plan is to present the GETM results on "Information for Mariners ", a browsable forecast viewing system. It is expected that GETM data will be included in IFM2 during summer 2007.
